Dairy Factory Design
We work to local norms and work with your team in your country to:
Understand your requirements, specify and design buildings and processes to the latest global standards optimizing raw materials, product and people flows, ISO9000 / 22000 and HACCP systems, prepare competitive tender documentation, obtain quotations, recommend equipment, suppliers (sourcing locally where possible) and supervise building, installation and training and commissioning. Recipe formlation and product /packaging design assistance can be provided if required.
- Products and capacity selection and budget preparation
- Prepare an outline process flow and buildings requirements.
- Prepare tender documents for estimates of costs for buildings and equipment and technology transfer where appropriate
- Dairy factory design including process, people and Management & Quality Systems using local professionals working to local norms.
- Pre tender health and safety plan (assistance with pre tender - construction design and management (CDM) regulations if appropriate)

Follow all relevant local country legislation in designing your factory and quality systems - do not just accept what is written here as rules continually change.
There are specific rules, regulations and licences in most countries for food manufacturing premises, products, recipes, ingredients, labelling regulations, packaging, storage temepratures, shelf life etc and these must be verified as being complied with.
Do your homework before commencing with a dairy factory design
Establish products to be manufactured and volume and calculate the volume of raw milk, whey etc to be processed per dayPrepare a schedule of main equipment and a budget / business plan
Locate a suitable site and carry out out your due diligence checks re availability of planning consents for water usage and effluent discharge, light and noise pollution and also any restrictions on working hours due to noise, traffic etc and any other limitations on the site - See also section on Site plan below
Before commencing the design walk the site and the surrounding area, establish a feel for the locality and other businneses and what they manufacture
Water and effluent consents are critical to a dairy plant
Look at th edesign of other local factories and if nothing else then decide what you will not include in your design
Decide on the orientation of the factory with a basic outline with entrance and traffic flows to get a feel for the building and how it will operate when it is completed - imagine the people and traffic flows
Put up a simple flag or windsock immediately and record the wind direction
Once you have the basic block drawings then decide on milk reception and silos, weighbridge and entrances / traffic flows and security
Have an idea of scale, size, height and appearance and consider this when looking at other factories and see what ideas are generated
Do not rush this stage - do it quickly by all means but do it in a structured manner or it will cost you later in time and expense
Consider any noise from local industry or from your factory and it's impact on surrounding business and housing
